Website Design Client: Mirk Studios

When Mirk Studios planned the redevelopment of their exterior virtual design company website, they obviously sought a better version of their existing website. However, with with more of a focus on SEO. Being a real estate related service contractor, Mirk wanted to duplicate the “Before and After” sliding component used on their old website and all industry competitors. Being a creative studio, they also sought a platform that they could act as an “administrator” to update their site all on their own.

The owner of Mirk Studios owner found AdverGroup web design from a referral, from an a mutual industry contact: Virtual Assistant, Instagram Content Creator and Social Media Influencer Ana Canon. After an introduction from Ana, we discussed the wants and desires the client had for their new company website. In 2023, as Sherwin-Williams Latin American Resource Group prepares for their 2nd annual Fiesta Latina, they asked AdverGroup to assist in producing two video commercials to help promote the upcoming events. One video is narrated by a Spanish speaking narrator and another version narrated by an English voiceover artist with a Spanish Accent. The video footage which was captured at the 1st Annual event in 2022 was repurposed and used to promote the upcoming event in 2023!.

Sherwin-Williams is a paint manufacturer who ares about the painting contractors that they supply paint to. In efforts to provide more resources to Latin American painting contractor Sherwin-Williams formed their Latin American Resource Group. This group helps painting contractors and companies realize other resources for their business to help them become successful. GOOGLE CHICAGO AdobeStock 110605758

Alphabet Inc. announces their intent on “Bringing Google to Chicago’s Thompson Center.” The company announcement posted on July 27, 2022 under Google’s Company News section, conveyed the company’s plan to purchase the Thompson Center and “support (their) engineering work in Chicago,” in effort to “advance the growth of Google’s partners and customers across the Midwest and nationally”.

While Google, and their parent company “Alphabet Inc.” are both headquartered in the same Mountain View, California corporate complex, known as the “Googleplex.” The Googleplex has been reported to possesses roughly 2 million square feet of office space, the Thompson Center is not far behind with approximately 1.5 million square feet, spread across 17 floors of office and retail space.

If comparing the actual size and scale of the two facilities is not enough to reveal the level of Google’s interest in establishing a more prominent physical position in the Midwest, Google flat out stated that they view “the tech sector’s economic impact in Chicago to be significant.” While also taking the opportunity to note the company’s already existing commitment and position in Chicago, which was reported in the year 2020 to “support over 4,600 indirect jobs in Illinois, for a total economic impact of $2 billion.”

The two campuses are certainly stark in comparison. Mind you, Google come’s from a place named after a refreshing “mountain view.” Whereas, the California campus possesses rural walking paths, swimming pools, multiple sand volleyball courts, and eighteen cafeterias with diverse menus. While this new acquisition exists in a busy and bustling downtown urban area. The purchase of the unrenovated building will cost Google 105 million dollars. It will require a massive renovation to make it the modern and cutting edge complex that Google envisions. However, Google’s company announcement lauded the Thompson Center’s close proximity to Chicago’s “unparalleled public transit system,” while also balancing the statement by saying the move “also helps meet the future needs of a flexible hybrid workforce.”

The James R. Thompson Center was built in 1985, “the 17-story, all-glass exterior curves and slopes facing its plaza” (as stated on the Illinois Department of Central Management Services website). The building has been awarded the 1986 Distinguished Building Award by the American Institute of Architects (Chicago Chapter). The Center has was called “the Pantheon of Chicago” and was described during the award ceremony, as “a building that makes a strong, powerful, and important statement … and breaks new ground.” It is slightly ironic that the once iconic Thompson Center which was once viewed as a futuristic architectural design (in the 1980’s), will now become a space for Google to develop cutting edge technology.

However, the big announcement seemed to indirectly address many of the unspoken concerns and challenges currently impacting both the State of Illinois, and the City of Chicago. Whereas, many large retailers and companies have been closing locations and/or relocating their stores and corporate headquarters away from the City and the State of Illinois. Each for many of the same reasons, for retailers’: sales are down due to the COVID pandemic, rent is up or just too much to bare, and crime is crazy. “Smash & grab thefts,” car jacking’s and not to mention the frequent and unpredictable violence that plaques the City of Chicago.

Recent companies who have decided to relocate their corporate headquarters out of the City of Chicago and/or State of Illinois include Citadel LLC, Boeing and (Deerfield based) Caterpillar. While retailers like Old Navy, DSW (State Street) and Whole Foods (in Englewood) plus Aldi store on Chicago’s South Side in the city’s Auburn Gresham have also decided to close doors at underperforming locations within the City of Chicago.

While some businesses and brands have experienced disenchantment with the City of Chicago and State of Illinois, other companies like Google, Kellogg and Abbot have increased their commitment and footprint in Chicago. The Google company announcement cited a recent economic impact study which found “creating one high-tech job generates another 4.4 jobs in the local economy.”

After listing various philanthropic programs, benefits and enriching resources which Illinois has and will continue to experience, as a result of Google’s operations in our State, the company announcement closes saying, that they “look forward to continuing to be an active part of Chicago’s community for many years to come.” Google states they “love being a part of Chicago’s diverse and vibrant community.”

This local printing and packaging management company was looking for a local website designer that was preferably nearby their new office that is located in Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. Website Design Client: Forest Park Bakery

This local bakery owner and donut shop recently bought his second bakery and knew that he needed to rebrand his business. In doing so, he knew that he was going to need a new website for his bakery. He also knew this new website needed to be able sell products and deal with the unique needs of a bakery including prep time requirements, minimum quantity settings per category, and more. When searching for the best bakery website design companies he found AdverGroup and was impressed with the other bakery websites that we had designed. He was also happy to hear that we included professional food photography which would help him in exhibiting his fresh bakery items.

Beyond developing this new bakery website for Forest Park Bakery, we also managed export of their products from their existing POS inventory system, into a data format that we could manipulate and prepare for import into this new eCommerce Bakery website.

Product Options and Variants for eCommerce Bakery Products: Being a bakery, you could imagine the many product options that could be possible with these food products. Custom options implemented in this project were: cake sizes, cake flavors, icing flavors, custom name inscriptions, cello bag wrapping and more. Even more complicating these options needed to be applied to individual products and/or collections and in some cases were required to change the final product price by adding additional costs for options..
Pick-Up Locations Configured for Shopify eCommerce: This local bakery has 2 locations and 95% of their products are for pick-up only. They needed this to be very clear to their shoppers while ensuring a smooth check out process.
“Call for Price” or “Get a Quote” for Shopify eCommerce: This bakery also produces super custom cakes for weddings and all occasions. While they wanted to exhibit these many cake styles on their website, pricing is always custom. So they needed to the ability to designate certain products to show “Call for Price” or “Get a Quote” rather than pricing.
Product date restrictions for Seasonal eCommerce Products: We coded and configured this client’s Shopify store to allow the client to set product availability based on dates. This allowed the client to display products in their store, but making them available only to add to cart between certain dates.
Product Quantity Restrictions: Limits can be set on: Total dollar value in cart, Total number of items in cart, Number of individual items, Number of items for a specific product, Number of items within a group of products, Multiples of items in a product group (ie; 6 bottles in a case) Limits based on customer tag such as wholesale, Total weight of items in the cart.
Tax overrides configured for Shopify eCommerce: Shopify for taxes as part of their PCI compliance configuration and in effort to make configurations easy for clients. But what about when you have a food product that only collects 1.75% rather than the tax percentages forced by Shopify? The solution is to configure custom tax overrides in Shopify.
“Amazon Style” Filter for eCommerce Products: When you have almost 3,000 products in your eCommerce store you need an easy way to navigate through the store. As a local Shopify expert we are have experience configuring your stores inventory properly, ensuring products are tagged intelligently so that your many product types, flavors and product uses are tagged in your products and configured in your filter app to ensure a pleasing user experience for customers who frequent your online store.
Coupons and Discounts: Configured coupons and discounts in the Shopify eCommerce Platform.
Custom Preparation Time for eCommerce Products: This Bakery’s process required “preparation time” to be noted and pick-up dates to be restricted dependent upon preparation time set for specific products and dates.
Custom Email Notifications to Customers and Administrators: This client required their very custom eCommerce website to provide specific details on their invoices and emails to customers and administrators. We custom coded their eCommerce invoices and email notifications to include all the information relative to their specific: pick-up locations, pick-up date, pick-up time, discounts and more.

Additional Tasks Accomplished in this Custom Shopify eCommerce Website Project for Local Bakery in Deerfield & Buffalo Grove:

Product Migration and/or Implementation: Migration of clients pre-existing inventory into the Shopify eCommerce Software. Over 3,000 products! This migration of products allowed the client the ability to enhance their products during the new import. As none of the pre-existing inventory had SEO metadata, the new content was all coded properly to achieve intelligent page titles and descriptions which are now in harmony with the product’s forward facing description.
Content Migration: Website included migration of other website pages and content into Shopify, also now coded to include proper metadata for search engine optimization.

AdverGroup Web Design was contacted by the owner of a local nursing staffing agency in Palatine, IL. Integrity Healthcare Staffing LLC serves clients in Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Texas and Florida. They had an existing website developed by another web designer using the Wix Website Solution. However, they were not happy with the product delivered by their former web designer and sought a more professional medical website design. After a few phone consultations with our team and after learning more about search engine optimization, the owner of this local healthcare agency knew that moving forward with AdverGroup was the best option for her company,

After a few conversations with AdverGroup, this client realized her former web designer paid absolutely no attention to search engine optimization. C#, .NET WEB DEVELOPER DUTIES

Design and develop business website functionality using C# and .NET
Improving ASP.net website code quality and infrastructure for existing websites.
Implement good best management practices, security, coding standards, architecture patterns, and documentation practices when developing in C# and .NET.
Work across all phases of the backend software development cycle (planning, design, implementation, deployment, operations and support).
Experience with front-end design needs and coding in CSS and HTML.
Communicate effectively and efficiently while promoting a strong sense of teamwork.
Optimize website speed / basic knowledge of SEO guidelines to ensure effective development of .aspx webpages.
Ability to troubleshoot, identify and communicate technical code issues and ability to determine potential solutions and convey solution feasibility.
Manage multiple projects and work independently without supervision at times.

REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to provide samples of recent work exhibiting your abilities.
4+ years of .NET web development with a preferred focus on retail eCommerce solutions.
4+ years with relational databases.
Experience with SQLServer and NoSQL Databases.
Proficiency in C#, F#, ASP.NET, HTML, Javascript, and Visual Studio / Code.
Javascript development and framework experience.
jQuery development experience.
Experience with Blazor and Xamarin/Mono, both are features of ASP.NET, that extend the .NET developer.
Practical understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns in a web-based environment.
Must possess exceptional analytical skills to debug complex coding problems in various languages and on various platforms.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with Project Managers, Clients and other 3rd Party Developers.
Ability to take part in video conference calls as required to deliver remote web developer services.
